Shabana Azmi Remembers Farooq Sheikh on His Birth Anniversary

Mumbai, March 25: In the film industry, some relationships last a lifetime. Renowned actress Shabana Azmi fondly remembered her old friend and actor Farooq Sheikh on his birth anniversary. In her heartfelt post, she shared cherished memories that remain close to her heart.

Shabana Azmi took to Instagram to share an old photograph of Farooq Sheikh, reminiscing about their college days together. She revealed that they studied at St. Xavier’s College, where their friendship blossomed.

In her post, Shabana expressed, “During exams, Farooq always looked out for me. He made sure my pen never ran out of ink so I could write comfortably. Even when I was unwell, he stood by my side. However, amidst all this, he would tease me and never directly complimented me.”

She continued, “Our bond remained strong even after college. We worked together for nearly 22 years across the globe. We performed in the famous play ‘Tumhari Amrita,’ directed by Feroz Abbas Khan. I remember you on your birthday.”

Farooq Sheikh was known for his simplicity and remarkable acting skills, carving a unique identity in Hindi cinema. He began his career in theater and made his film debut in 1973 with ‘Garm Hava.’ He collaborated with legends like Satyajit Ray, Sai Paranjpye, and Hrishikesh Mukherjee, gaining recognition through films such as ‘Chashme Buddoor,’ ‘Bazaar,’ and ‘Umrao Jaan.’ He was also active in television and theater, celebrated for his natural performances.

Farooq Sheikh passed away from a heart attack on December 28, 2013, while vacationing in Dubai with his family. His untimely demise was a significant loss for the film industry.
