Mumbai, September 23 (Daily Kiran) : Actor Kartik Aaryan has reached a significant career milestone by winning a National Award for his performance in the film “Chandu Champion.” The announcement was made on September 18, 2026, during a press conference revealing the winners of the 72nd National Film Awards. Director Kabir Khan expressed his joy for Aaryan’s achievement on Instagram, sharing a photo and writing, “Always walk like a lion, my champion… with that special smile of yours.”
In a heartfelt message, Aaryan dedicated this honor to those who have supported him throughout his journey, including his parents, friends, and entire team. He also shared an emotional note on social media after receiving the award. The film, written and directed by Kabir Khan, was produced collaboratively by Sajid Nadiadwala and Khan under Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment.
In “Chandu Champion,” Aaryan portrays the role of Paralympic gold medalist Murlikant Petkar, showcasing his dedication through significant physical transformations. The sports biopic tells the inspiring story of Petkar, who hails from a small village in Maharashtra. Despite facing severe injuries during the 1965 India-Pakistan war, Petkar remained determined to achieve his dream of winning an Olympic gold medal for India. He made history in swimming and other sports, bringing pride to his country.
The National Film Development Corporation of India presented the awards, recognizing the best of Indian cinema from 2024. A total of 400 entries were submitted in the feature film category, along with 161 non-feature films, 38 books, and 24 critical entries. “Article 370” was awarded Best Feature Film, while the science fiction film “Kalki 2898 AD” received the award for Best Popular Feature Film.
