Seoul (Udaipur Kiran News): Samsung appears to be reversing its earlier decision to discontinue the “Plus” variant in its flagship lineup. According to a new report from Korean outlet The Elec, the company has restarted development of a device codenamed “M Plus”, which is believed to be the upcoming Galaxy S26+.

Earlier this year, Samsung outlined three projects for its next-generation Galaxy S26 series“M1” (Galaxy S26 or S26 Pro), “M2” (Galaxy S26 Edge), and “M3” (Galaxy S26 Ultra). The initial plan was to replace the Plus variant with a new Edge model, hoping a refreshed design and positioning could make the mid-tier flagship more appealing between the standard and Ultra versions.

However, the strategy appears to have backfired. The Galaxy S25 Edge, launched in May 2025, has reportedly struggled in the market, with production numbers around 300,000 units in the past four months — significantly lower than the 500,000 Galaxy S25 Plus units produced during the same period last year.

The disappointing performance of the S25 Edge seems to have prompted Samsung to reconsider its lineup. While the Edge branding may have been intended to inject fresh appeal, consumer response has been lukewarm, indicating that the Plus model still holds stronger market recognition and demand.

Abandoning the Plus version entirely would have added pressure on flagship sales, particularly in the mid-segment where the Plus model often plays a crucial role in balancing performance, features, and price. With profitability in focus, Samsung appears to be taking the safer route by bringing back the S26+.

It remains unclear whether Samsung will continue offering both the Edge and Plus models, or if this signals a full rollback to the traditional three-tier structure: Base, Plus, and Ultra. Regardless, the move underscores how carefully Samsung must navigate its flagship lineup, as even minor missteps can have a significant impact on sales performance.
