Samsung may be gearing up for one of its biggest display changes with the upcoming Galaxy S26 Ultra, according to a report by ET News. The flagship model in the 2026 lineup is expected to debut with advanced OLED technology offering higher brightness, better efficiency, and slimmer panels—though these upgrades may remain exclusive to the Ultra model.

The S26 Ultra is likely to feature Samsung Display’s new M14 material set combined with CoE (Color filter on encapsulation) technology. This upgrade could push brightness levels beyond 2,600 nits or deliver the same brightness with lower power use.
Unlike current M13-based panels that rely on polarizers—adding bulk and consuming more power—CoE integrates the color filter directly into the OLED encapsulation layer. A new Black Pixel Define Layer is also said to reduce reflections, enhancing contrast. The M14 material set will reportedly use Deuterium hosts across red, green, and blue emitters, improving efficiency and extending panel lifespan.
Reports also suggest that Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 series may use the same M14 material, but Samsung’s addition of CoE could give the Galaxy S26 Ultra an advantage. Extra features such as a “Private Display” mode—designed to limit viewing angles for better privacy—are also being speculated.
However, the report indicates that only the Galaxy S26 Ultra will benefit from these upgrades, while the Galaxy S26 Pro and S26 Edge may continue with M13-based panels.
Samsung has not confirmed these details, but if accurate, the Galaxy S26 Ultra could set a new benchmark for flagship smartphone displays when it launches in early 2026.
