Samir Rizvi Reflects on Hard Work After Leading Delhi Capitals to Victory

New Delhi, April 4: In a thrilling encounter at Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium, the Delhi Capitals triumphed over the Mumbai Indians by six wickets in the eighth match of IPL 2026. Samir Rizvi played a crucial role in securing Delhi’s second consecutive win this season. He shared that he has dedicated significant effort to improving his batting over the past year and was named ‘Player of the Match’ for his outstanding performance.

Following the victory against the Mumbai Indians, Samir stated, “I have worked hard on myself because there have been many changes since last year. I focused on all my weaknesses, particularly against fast bowlers, which I struggled with. My hard work is now paying off, and I am batting well. It’s true that when a player is in form, the ball looks different.”

Samir emphasized the importance of adapting his batting to match conditions. He explained, “I always try to play according to the situation. If conditions change, I adjust my approach in both innings. Initially, we needed to take our time, so I did just that. Once I settled in, I played my shots and focused on watching the ball until the end.”

He delivered a stellar performance, scoring 90 runs off 51 balls, including seven fours and seven sixes. Reflecting on his batting strategy, Samir mentioned, “Yes, I try to take my time when I come to bat in such situations. With time, you settle on the wicket. Once you do, you can better understand the conditions and play accordingly. Then, the pressure of what to do next diminishes. Once you are established at the crease, batting becomes easier.”

He added, “This is a crucial time for any player. Scoring runs and performing well boosts your confidence. It opens up opportunities for more play and chances on bigger stages. That’s a great thing.” After KL Rahul and Nitish Rana were dismissed cheaply, Samir formed a vital partnership of 66 runs for the third wicket with Pathum Nissanka. He also collaborated with David Miller for a significant 78-run partnership off just 39 balls for the fourth wicket, paving the way for Delhi Capitals’ success. With this victory, Delhi Capitals have climbed to the top of the points table.
