Bhivani, August 6: Indian boxers showcased their talent at the Commonwealth Games 2026, particularly the female athletes who secured five gold medals for the country. Among them was Sakshi Chaudhary, who won gold in the 51-kilogram category. Upon returning to her home in Bhivani, Haryana, Sakshi received a grand welcome.
In an interview with reporters, Sakshi expressed her joy at the large turnout of family and friends celebrating her victory. She dedicated her gold medal to all her fellow countrymen, emphasizing that she represented India in Glasgow. Sakshi mentioned that she had promised her parents before leaving for the Commonwealth Games that she would return with a gold medal, and she was thrilled to have fulfilled that promise.
Sakshi highlighted the moment when the Indian national anthem played while she stood on the podium as the most special experience. She stated, “The proudest moment was when the anthem was played and the tricolor was hoisted. Hearing our anthem abroad felt like a dream come true. We work hard for our country, and winning a gold medal for India is a matter of great pride.”
She revealed that she was inspired to start boxing after watching Vijender Singh. Additionally, she thanked Virat Kohli for his support throughout her journey, mentioning that he has been a significant sponsor for her.
India’s performance at the Commonwealth Games 2026 was remarkable. Despite the absence of key sports like wrestling, badminton, hockey, and shooting, India managed to win a total of 39 medals, including 13 golds. Out of these, 10 medals were secured by the Indian boxing team, marking their best performance in Commonwealth Games history.
