SA20: Pretoria Capitals Suffer Second Consecutive Defeat Under Saurav Ganguly

New Delhi, 30 January. Former Indian cricket captain Saurav Ganguly has begun his coaching career as the head coach of Pretoria Capitals in the South Africa T20 League 2025-26. However, Ganguly’s start as a head coach has not been smooth, as his team faced their second consecutive defeat.

The match between Pretoria Capitals and Sunrisers Eastern Cape took place on Monday at Gqeberha. Sunrisers Eastern Cape won the toss and chose to bat first. Thanks to explosive half-centuries from Quinton de Kock and Matthew Breetzke, they posted a total of 188 runs for six wickets.

Opening batsman Quinton de Kock scored 77 runs off 47 balls, hitting six sixes and five fours. Matthew Breetzke came in at number three and played a brisk innings of 52 runs from 33 balls, including one six and seven fours. The duo shared a 116-run partnership for the second wicket, helping their team reach 188. Jordan Hermann also contributed 37 runs off 20 balls, with one six and five fours.

For Pretoria Capitals, Timil Mills took two wickets, while Lungi Ngidi, Vihan Lube, and Bryce Parsons claimed one wicket each.

Chasing 189 runs, Pretoria Capitals lost an early wicket when Bryce Parsons was dismissed for one run at a team score of three. Will Smeed and Shai Hope tried to stabilise the innings with a 47-run partnership for the second wicket, but after their dismissals, no other batsman could hold the crease. The team was all out for 140 runs in 18 overs, losing the match by 48 runs. Will Smeed scored 35 runs off 27 balls, while Shai Hope made 36 off 19 balls. Notably, seven batsmen failed to reach double figures.

For Sunrisers, Adam Milne took four wickets, Tharindu Rathnayake claimed two, and Marco Jansen, Senuran Muthusamy, and Lewis Gregory picked one wicket each.

Quinton de Kock was named Player of the Match.
