Russia Advocates Political Approach Amid Trumps Ultimatum to Iran

Moscow, March 23: President Donald Trump of the United States has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Iran, prompting a warning of retaliatory action from Tehran. The global community is alarmed, as an attack on the Bushehr nuclear plant could lead to a severe humanitarian crisis. Russia emphasizes the need to focus on de-escalation.

Russia believes that the situation can be resolved through political and strategic means. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated during a press briefing, “We believe that the matter should be resolved politically and strategically.”

Peskov added, “These are the ways to effectively reduce the prevailing tensions in the region.”

Russia has also condemned the threats aimed at the Bushehr nuclear power plant. Peskov remarked that U.S.-Israeli attacks near the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant in Iran are extremely dangerous, and Russia has communicated its concerns to the United States, warning that the consequences of such attacks could be catastrophic and irreparable.

He stated, “We believe that attacks on nuclear facilities can be very dangerous… Therefore, the Russian side has adopted a very responsible stance on this issue, repeatedly expressing its concerns.”

Recently, the Natanz nuclear facility in Iran was also attacked. Russia condemned this assault, labeling it a blatant violation of international law. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has expressed concern, noting that while there was no radioactive leak, precautions should be taken.

This was the second attack on Natanz since the conflict began. The facility was targeted on March 2 as well. It is Iran’s largest nuclear center, where uranium enrichment takes place. Located in Isfahan, a significant portion of this facility is underground.

Following the March 2 attack, the IAEA confirmed on March 3 that there was minor damage to buildings near the entrance of the Natanz nuclear facility.

The Natanz facility was a primary target during the 12-day conflict between Israel and Iran in June, which ultimately involved the U.S. as well.
