Russia Accuses U.S. of Dominating Global Energy Market

Moscow, March 22: Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has claimed in an interview with Russian media that the United States is pursuing a strategy to dominate the global energy market.

Lavrov stated on Saturday, “The U.S. is solely concerned with its own interests. It is willing to go to any lengths to maintain its prosperity, whether that involves coups, kidnappings, or targeting leaders of countries that possess vital natural resources for Washington. This entire issue is tied to oil.”

According to the Xinhua news agency, Lavrov further emphasized that the U.S. believes its benefits always take precedence over international agreements. The U.S. has previously welcomed and will continue to welcome the isolation of Russia from the European energy market. He stressed that the U.S. must first respect Russia’s position to cooperate with it.

Earlier on Friday, a spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry stated that European leaders are deliberately pushing their countries into crises and energy shortages by continuously rejecting Russian energy resources.

Maria Zakharova posted on her Telegram channel, “This is not a technical disaster or a natural calamity causing a global crisis in the European Union, but rather the decisions of its own leaders that are simply changing the situation.”

On the same day, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen confirmed the EU’s firm stance. Amid rising tensions in the Middle East and a severe energy crisis in Europe, member states are clearly prohibited from purchasing Russian natural gas.

However, some member countries have opposed this EU stance, particularly those heavily reliant on Russian energy supplies. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán appealed earlier this month for the EU to lift the ban on Russian energy, warning that rising oil prices and supply disruptions pose a threat to regional energy security.
