Mumbai, February 16: The Rohit Shetty shooting case continues to unfold with significant developments. On Monday morning, the Mumbai Crime Branch arrested shooter Deepak Chandra in Rajasthan, along with five other suspects. Additionally, another accused, Vishnu Kushwaha, was apprehended by police in Agra.
So far, a total of 12 arrests have been made in this case. The Crime Branch presented six suspects in court, securing remand until February 25. Authorities suspect that these individuals were operating under the direction of a larger gang. The arrested suspects include Jatin Ramesh Bhardwaj (22), Sonu Kumar (20), Deepak Ramesh Chandra (25), Vishal Thakur (19), Sunny Kumar Rakesh Kumar (23), and Hrithik Vinod Singh Yadav (24). Following his arrest, shooter Deepak Chandra revealed several details during the interrogation.
According to the Mumbai Crime Branch, Deepak Chandra fled the scene after executing the shooting. He was accompanied by Sonu Kumar and Sunny Kumar, who were aware of the shooting plan, while the remaining three suspects assisted in the operation.
The accused also admitted that co-accused Vishal Thakur, Jatin Bhardwaj, and Hrithik Vinod Singh Yadav were unaware of the shooting. Jatin Bhardwaj is Deepak Chandra’s cousin, from whom Deepak borrowed ₹1,500 for transportation. After the incident, Deepak and Sonu stayed at a factory in Agra where Hrithik Vinod works as a supervisor. Investigations revealed that Deepak and Sonu had also stayed at Vishal’s house in Noida after leaving Agra.
Defense attorney Dilip Shukla spoke to the media, stating that police labeled Deepak Ramesh Chandra as the main shooter and arrested Hrithik, Vishal, and Sonu. However, he argued in court that Hrithik, Vishal, and Sonu had no involvement in the incident, as police lacked direct evidence. The arrests were made because they are friends and were nearby the crime scene, assisting the shooter. Hrithik believed his friends were on vacation. The court acknowledged their arguments and indicated that these aspects would be considered in the ongoing investigation.
