Rohit Sharma Praises Suryakumar’s Game Sense and Leadership Ahead of T20 World Cup

New Delhi: Under Suryakumar Yadav’s captaincy, India has taken a 2-0 lead in the five-match T20 series against New Zealand. Rohit Sharma has praised Suryakumar’s influence on the national team, calling him a great player with an excellent understanding of the game. Rohit highlighted that the captain knows how to get the best performances from his players.

Suryakumar played a crucial role in India’s 7-wicket victory in Raipur against New Zealand, scoring an unbeaten 82 runs with 9 fours and 4 sixes. With the T20 World Cup 2026 starting on 7 February, Suryakumar’s return to form is a positive sign for Team India.

Speaking on ‘JioCinema’, Rohit Sharma said, “A captain being in form makes a big difference, but I see it differently. It’s not just about the captain. If a key player like Suryakumar is out of form, you lose one of your 7-8 batsmen, which weakens the entire lineup. Suryakumar is a remarkable player who has consistently performed for India. If his performance dips, it affects the team.”

He further explained, “Suryakumar bats with a high strike rate and plays unconventional shots that disrupt the opposition’s plans. He hits the ball in unexpected areas, playing shots others can’t. This puts pressure on the bowlers, making them wonder what to do next. When a player like him is in form, it strengthens the whole team—not just because of the confidence he brings, but also because of the unique qualities he adds to the game.”

Rohit also spoke about Suryakumar’s natural cricketing intelligence, saying, “Suryakumar understands the game very well. We have played many IPL matches together. Whenever I discussed different situations with him, his answers were always thoughtful. I evaluate people this way. I don’t expect him to always agree with me, but his responses need to show insight.”

“He has a deep understanding of the game and knows how to extract the best from the players around him. The T20 World Cup will bring challenging moments where we must stay alert. It will be a test, but these players have experience in handling high-pressure matches. They will manage it,” Rohit added.
