New Delhi, May 2: Two separate road accidents in Tamil Nadu’s Yercaud and Uttarakhand’s Tehri on Saturday morning caused significant disruption for local authorities and commuters. Fortunately, there were no casualties reported in either incident. However, vehicle damage and traffic interruptions led to considerable inconvenience for residents.
The first incident occurred on Yercaud’s Market Road, where a speeding car lost control and crashed into an electricity pole. The entire event was captured on nearby CCTV cameras. The impact was so severe that the iron pole broke and was dragged along the road for some distance.
The vehicle belonged to a local resident named Sundaram, while the car was driven by Duraisamy, a resident of Vasanmpadi village. Reports indicate that around 6:15 AM, Duraisamy was transporting staff from a private lodge to the bus stand in the 5 Roads area, a routine task for him.
As the car approached the KJS Jewelry Shop on Market Road, it reportedly lost control due to its high speed and collided directly with the iron electricity pole. Following the crash, the vehicle dragged the pole along before finally coming to a stop.
Another individual, Eshwaran from Thalaicholai village, was injured in the incident. He was sitting on a motorcycle parked by the roadside and was struck by the car. Thankfully, both Eshwaran and the driver sustained only minor injuries and are not in serious condition.
The accident severely impacted the area’s electricity supply. The broken pole caused power outages for approximately 109 homes, while over 500 homes and shops in the surrounding market area and bus stand also experienced electricity cuts, leading to significant inconvenience for residents.
Upon receiving the report, police arrived at the scene to manage the situation. A team from the electricity department also quickly arrived to remove the broken pole and install a new one, aiming to restore power as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, another road accident was reported from Tehri district in Uttarakhand. A cement-laden truck lost control and overturned on the Ghansali area of the Jakhdhar-Pokhal National Highway (NH-707A) in the morning, completely blocking the road.
As soon as the incident was reported, police rushed to the scene to initiate rescue operations. The overturned truck caused a significant traffic jam, leading to considerable difficulties for commuters.
In response to the situation, police implemented traffic diversions. Vehicles heading towards Chamba and Tehri are being rerouted through Tipri, Hindolakhal, and Devprayag. Similarly, vehicles coming from Maletha towards Chamba and Tehri are also being diverted via the Devprayag route.
