Ritesh Deshmukh Moved to Tears at Raja Shivaji Trailer Launch

Mumbai, April 20: The highly anticipated trailer for Ritesh Deshmukh’s period drama film ‘Raja Shivaji’ was unveiled on Monday. This film is based on the life of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and is set to hit theaters in May 2026.

A grand event was organized in Mumbai for the trailer launch, attended by the entire film team. Both Ritesh and Genelia appeared visibly emotional, with tears in their eyes.

An emotional Ritesh shared, “I had previously advised everyone to hold onto their money. We are under the blessing of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. I vividly remember playing the flute and portraying a king during my school’s annual day. That was my home. Today, I stand here as a soldier of Shivaji Maharaj, receiving thunderous applause from all of you. Whether on stage, during Diwali, Shiv Jayanti, or any artistic performance, it is a great fortune to portray a character. I was fortunate to have this opportunity in my childhood.”

He further expressed gratitude towards Jio Studios and Jyoti Deshpande for their immense effort in this project. “I sincerely thank Sanju sir as well,” he added.

Actor Sanjay Dutt also shared his thoughts on the film, stating, “This film is very special. Ritesh is like my younger brother. I am happy that our families have been connected since our fathers’ time. Working on this film has been a pleasure. Thank you to Jyoti and the entire team.”

Abhishek Bachchan praised the trailer, saying, “The trailer gave me goosebumps. Congratulations to Jyoti, Ritesh, and the entire team for creating a fantastic film. Being a part of this film is a matter of great pride for me. This is not just a film; it’s an emotion. The work done by Ritesh, Genelia, and Jyoti is far greater than the film itself. I have never seen such a large-scale Marathi film before. Best wishes to the entire team.”

Bhagyashree referred to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj as the ‘gold’ of the nation. She remarked, “After watching the trailer, it feels like we have truly brought gold with us. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is our country’s treasure. Today, we have brought him home. Thank you, Genelia and Ritesh. Balancing roles as husband and wife along with director and producer is no easy feat. They often debated but never gave up. I remember when I was playing Rajmata Jijau, Genelia would bring me food and say – ‘Have a bite.’ That is true love.”

Actress Vidya Balan expressed her pride in the film, stating, “When I learned that Ritesh was making a Marathi film on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj with artists like Sanjay Dutt and Ritesh, I thought there wouldn’t be a role for me. However, Ritesh impressed me as an actor. He narrated the story, and I was immediately ready to be part of the film. I called him to say I would definitely do this film.”
