Rishabh Pant Returns to Delhi Capitals in Major IPL Trade Ahead of 2027 Season

Mumbai, June 23: In a significant move ahead of the 2027 IPL season, Delhi Capitals (DC) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have finalized a major trade. Wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant will return to DC from LSG, while Kuldeep Yadav will don the LSG jersey next season. The governing body officially confirmed this on Tuesday.

During the mega auction for IPL 2025, LSG acquired Pant for ₹27 crore. However, he will now return to DC for ₹15 crore. Kuldeep, on the other hand, will join LSG at his current fee of ₹13.5 crore.

An official statement from the IPL noted, “After the trade, Pant will return to DC at a revised fee of ₹15 crore, while Kuldeep will join LSG at his existing fee of ₹13.50 crore.”

Both Pant and Kuldeep played together for DC until IPL 2024. Pant had been with LSG for the 2025 and 2026 seasons, while Kuldeep remained with DC.

Pant was a part of DC from 2016 to 2024, serving as the team captain from 2021 to 2024. He led the team in 43 matches, securing 23 victories and facing defeat in 20 matches. Over his tenure from 2016 to 2024, Pant played a total of 111 matches for DC.

His performances during the IPL 2025 and 2026 seasons with LSG were disappointing as both a captain and batsman. Speculations about his return to DC for IPL 2027 have now been confirmed.

For Kuldeep Yadav, this will be his third team in the IPL. He was part of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) from 2016 to 2021 and has been with DC from IPL 2022 to 2026. His addition is expected to strengthen LSG’s spin bowling. The seasoned spinner has taken 112 wickets in 110 IPL matches.
