Rishabh Pant Discusses Opening Strategy After LSG-DC Match in IPL 2026

Lucknow, April 2: In the Indian Premier League 2026, the match between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Delhi Capitals (DC) took place at the Ekana Stadium on Wednesday. LSG captain Rishabh Pant opened the innings, which sparked discussions as he typically does not bat at the top of the order. After the match, Pant explained that this decision was part of a strategic plan.

Pant stated, “This decision was not made suddenly; it was a well-thought-out strategy. The team wanted Nicholas Pooran to play an aggressive role in the middle overs, which is why he was moved down the order.”

He further elaborated, “Using a left-right combination could have prevented the opposing team from utilizing their left-arm spinner, especially Axar Patel. However, his early dismissal meant that this plan could not be fully executed.”

When asked about opening in future matches, Pant mentioned that he could continue to play in the top order.

Unfortunately for LSG, Pant’s opening performance did not yield positive results. He scored just 7 runs off 9 balls before being dismissed.

Throughout his nearly ten-year T20 career, Pant has opened the innings only 23 times, and in the IPL, he has done so just seven times.

LSG faced defeat in their season opener at home, managing only 141 runs in 18.4 overs. Delhi Capitals chased down the target, scoring 145 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in just 17.1 overs.

LSG’s next match is scheduled for April 5 against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
