RCB Faces Defeat Against DC: Captain Rajat Patidar Reflects on Missed Runs

Bengaluru, April 18: In the 26th match of IPL 2026, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) suffered a 6-wicket defeat against Delhi Capitals (DC) on Saturday. After the loss at M. Chinnaswamy Cricket Stadium, captain Rajat Patidar acknowledged that the team’s batsmen fell short by 15 to 20 runs, which ultimately cost them the match.

Following the defeat, Rajat stated, “The match was very close, but I believe we scored 15 to 20 runs less. Virat and Salt gave us a good start, but after 12-13 overs, we lost wickets in quick succession, which put us on the back foot. I think the pitch was a bit challenging in the first innings. However, the way we fought in the final overs is a positive sign for us. I just spoke with the bowlers about being completely clear in whatever they do. It’s a long tournament, but I believe we will analyze our mistakes and improve.”

Meanwhile, with Delhi Capitals’ captain Axar Patel not fully fit, KL Rahul stepped in as the acting captain and praised the team’s performance. He remarked, “The wicket was a bit tricky at the start. I could see that Virat and Phil Salt were not happy with how the ball was coming onto the bat. Losing three wickets in the first six overs made things tough. However, overall, it was a very good cricket match.”

After losing three wickets for just 18 runs, KL Rahul and Tristan Stubbs steadied the innings for Delhi Capitals, adding 69 runs for the fourth wicket in 44 balls. Discussing the strategy after the early wickets, Rahul said, “Our conversation was to continue playing good cricket shots and see how we could find boundaries while still applying pressure on the bowlers. We didn’t want to be defensive, as that would make things even tougher if the run rate increased. We also noticed some reverse swing when we were bowling, and the opposition had some very good death bowlers. That’s why we didn’t want to take the match too deep. We just wanted to stay in the moment, take it one over at a time, and try to put pressure on the bowlers.”

When asked if he felt nervous in the final overs, Rahul expressed complete trust in David Miller and Tristan Stubbs. He said, “Stubbs and Miller do this every day for South African cricket.” Batting first, RCB scored 175 runs, losing 8 wickets in their 20 overs. However, Delhi Capitals successfully chased down the target of 176 runs with one ball to spare. KL Rahul scored a solid 57 runs, while Tristan Stubbs remained unbeaten at 60, and Miller contributed 22 runs, leading the team to victory.
