Jaipur, August 3: Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale expressed his support for the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) on Monday, stating that it would enhance the socio-economic status of Muslims. He also urged the Rajasthan government to allocate five acres of free land to every landless poor family.
During his media interaction in Jaipur, Athawale emphasized that the UCC is not against any specific community. Instead, he believes it will contribute to social and economic development, particularly among Muslims, and assist in alleviating poverty.
He suggested that neighboring countries like Bangladesh and Pakistan should also consider implementing the UCC. Athawale plans to write to their prime ministers, urging them to adopt such legislation.
The central minister expressed confidence that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will secure another victory for the NDA in the 2029 Lok Sabha elections. He praised Modi’s physical fitness and significant contributions to the nation’s development, asserting that the NDA will return to power for a fourth consecutive term.
Athawale claimed that opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Mamata Banerjee, and Akhilesh Yadav, will not be able to defeat the NDA.
He announced that his party, the Republican Party of India (RPI), will contest the upcoming Panchayat and urban body elections in Rajasthan as an NDA ally. Discussions regarding seat-sharing will take place with BJP state president Madan Rathore and Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma.
On land reforms, Athawale appealed to the Rajasthan government to initiate a special program to provide five acres of agricultural land to every eligible landless family, regardless of caste or community. He recommended forming an expert committee to identify beneficiaries through a detailed survey. If the government lacks sufficient land, he suggested considering land purchases for distribution. He also called on large landowners to voluntarily donate land, reminiscent of the historical land donation movement.
Athawale stated that he will soon write to Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, requesting the allocation of five acres of land for landless poor families in Rajasthan.
