Ramdas Athawale Advocates for Updating Voter Lists, Criticizes Mamata Banerjees Statements
Union Minister Ramdas Athawale emphasizes the need for accurate voter lists and critiques Mamata Banerjees recent comments.

New Delhi, September 24 (Daily Kiran) : Union Minister Ramdas Athawale has responded to issues surrounding voter lists, former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. He stated that while every eligible citizen should have the right to vote, it is inappropriate for the names of deceased individuals to remain on voter rolls.
In a conversation with a news agency, Athawale noted that often, names of deceased persons continue to appear on voter lists, while names of living and eligible voters are sometimes missing. He emphasized the importance of maintaining accurate and updated voter lists, arguing that any discrepancies undermine the democratic process.
Athawale specifically targeted Mamata Banerjee, urging her not to make statements against constitutional procedures. He recalled instances when, during her tenure as Chief Minister, she attempted to obstruct officials from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) from entering West Bengal.
He asserted that all constitutional institutions in the country must operate within the bounds of law and the Constitution. Athawale downplayed the significance of Banerjee’s statements, claiming that the people of West Bengal support the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
He insisted that unnecessary political disputes should be avoided and that all processes must proceed under constitutional frameworks. Regarding the controversy surrounding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, Athawale stated that every individual and political party in a democracy has the right to voice their concerns. If questions arise regarding a person’s or institution’s role, those matters can be investigated.
He concluded by affirming that the government would assess the veracity of the allegations against Gyanesh Kumar and his alleged involvement in the situation, stressing that progress should be based on facts and constitutional processes.
