Varanasi, October 31 (Daily Kiran) : A police team in Varanasi has arrested two more suspects in connection with the shooting of Constable Amit Shukla. The arrests occurred during an encounter in the Lanka police station area on October 31. The suspects, identified as Anjani Jha and Raju Tiwari, were apprehended after they allegedly opened fire on the police during a weapons recovery operation.

Reports indicate that the suspects sustained gunshot wounds to their legs during the exchange. They have been admitted to the BHU Trauma Center for treatment. Police also recovered illegal firearms used in the incident from the suspects.

Previously, on Friday night, another suspect, Raj Vishwakarma, was arrested in a separate encounter near Lutobir. He was also injured in the leg during the confrontation. With these latest arrests, police have now detained three individuals linked to the case.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Gaurav Bansal stated that a team from the Lanka police station was investigating suspected arms traffickers in the Ashutosh Nagar Colony when they approached two young men for questioning. One of the suspects suddenly opened fire, injuring Constable Amit Shukla, who was shot three times in the abdomen, back, and arm. He was rushed to the BHU Trauma Center for urgent care.

Following the incident, police formed several teams to track down the suspects. An encounter occurred near Lutobir, resulting in the injury and arrest of Raj Vishwakarma, while two accomplices managed to escape.

During interrogation, the suspects revealed that they had hidden the illegal firearms used in the attack in a secluded area of the Samne Ghat region. Acting on this information, a special police team located Anjani Jha and Raju Tiwari to recover the weapons.

During the recovery operation, both suspects reportedly opened fire on the police, prompting a defensive response that led to their injuries. They were subsequently arrested and taken to the hospital for treatment.
