Ranchi, June 21: Senior Congress leader Rajesh Thakur addressed several pressing issues on Sunday. He responded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks on Yoga Day, the political situation in West Bengal, the Ram Temple donation controversy, ongoing political events in Shiv Sena, and claims made by OP Rajbhar regarding the Samajwadi Party, taking a critical stance against the BJP and the central government.
In response to PM Modi’s assertion that yoga connects the world, Thakur emphasized that yoga is an ancient tradition of India, not a personal or governmental achievement. He noted that yoga has been part of Indian culture for around 5,000 years, with various saints, thinkers, and institutions contributing to its promotion over time. Thakur accused the Prime Minister of viewing every issue through a political lens, even using occasions like Yoga Day for political gain.
Thakur acknowledged the importance of yoga for public health and urged every citizen to adopt it. However, he stressed that yoga alone cannot resolve people’s problems. He highlighted the issue of inflation, stating that nutritious food and a better standard of living are also essential for maintaining health.
Reacting to PM Modi’s statement that yoga is crucial for a better future, Thakur pointed out that while the Prime Minister discusses grand issues, he fails to address the real challenges facing the nation. He alleged that the central government is not paying enough attention to pressing issues like inflation, unemployment, and the struggles of ordinary citizens. Thakur remarked that many people are suffering economic pressure, and inspirational speeches alone are insufficient.
On Modi’s comments regarding West Bengal, Thakur insisted that the central government should exhibit similar seriousness towards other sensitive issues in the country. He specifically mentioned the situation in Manipur, urging the Prime Minister to speak openly about the events and social tensions there. Thakur accused the BJP of prioritizing politically advantageous issues while neglecting other significant topics.
Regarding the debate on social media between Congress leaders Pawan Khera and Shashi Tharoor about the Modi-Trump meeting, Thakur stated that the matter is being unnecessarily exaggerated. He argued that both leaders are essentially conveying the same message in different styles, and the media is framing it as a party rift. He asserted that there are no fundamental contradictions among senior Congress leaders.
When questioned about the Ram Temple donation controversy, Thakur expressed that the news is deeply troubling and concerning. He remarked on the pattern of “theft” within the BJP, stating that even donations made in the name of Lord Ram have not escaped their grasp. He mentioned reports of gold bricks and jewels going missing from the Ram Temple, criticizing the BJP for resorting to committees and SITs to cover up these thefts.
Thakur likened the situation to hiding money in dung and then placing it on one’s forehead, asserting that this false exercise is merely an attempt to fool the public. He called for a fair, independent, and high-level investigation into the scam associated with Lord Ram’s name.
In response to Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s statement that only one Shiv Sena exists under Eknath Shinde’s leadership, Thakur remarked that the BJP has played a significant role in the circumstances surrounding Maharashtra’s politics. He noted that many leaders gained political recognition under the leadership of Balasaheb Thackeray and Uddhav Thackeray, only to later choose different paths. Thakur claimed that the people of Maharashtra understand the political developments and will respond accordingly in the future.
On claims regarding Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav stepping down and party leaders being in contact with the BJP, Thakur dismissed these statements as politically motivated. He rejected OP Rajbhar’s claims, asserting that the growing unity among opposition parties and the strength of the INDIA alliance are causing unease among BJP-supporting leaders.
Thakur concluded by asserting that the opposition alliance is continuously gaining strength, which is why such political statements are emerging.
