Rajasthan Police Issues Cyber Fraud Warning Ahead of Festival Sales

Jaipur, October 9 (Daily Kiran) : As the festive shopping season approaches, Rajasthan Police is on high alert for potential cyber fraud. Following directives from Director General of Police Rajeev Kumar Sharma, the Cyber Crime Branch has issued a comprehensive advisory to protect consumers during major e-commerce events like Flipkart’s ‘Big Billion Days’ and Amazon’s ‘Great Indian Festival.’

Additional Director General of Police (Cyber Crime) V.K. Singh highlighted that cybercriminals often target shoppers with enticing offers, such as heavy discounts and limited-time deals. Messages like “Buy Now,” “Only Two Minutes Left,” and “Pay Now or Lose the Offer” are designed to pressure customers into making hasty decisions.

Fraudsters may employ fake websites, counterfeit mobile apps, suspicious links, and deceptive payment methods to scam unsuspecting buyers. The Cyber Crime Branch has urged the public to remain vigilant while shopping online and to verify the legitimacy of offers before making any payments.

The police emphasized that exercising caution and using official platforms can significantly reduce the risk of falling victim to such scams. They provided several tips for online shoppers, including avoiding rushed payments simply because an offer promises substantial savings.

Customers are advised to check deals directly on the official websites or apps of e-commerce companies and to steer clear of shopping through unknown links received via WhatsApp, SMS, or social media.

The advisory also stresses the importance of carefully examining website domains, as the presence of HTTPS or a padlock icon does not always guarantee authenticity. Users should only download mobile apps from the official Google Play Store and Apple App Store.

Furthermore, individuals were reminded that a UPI PIN is required for transaction approval, not for receiving money. They should never enter their PIN or scan QR codes to claim refunds or cashback.

Lastly, shoppers are encouraged not to blindly trust customer care numbers found on Google searches or social media, but rather to utilize support options available on official apps and websites.
