Jaipur, October 14 (Daily Kiran): The Rajasthan government has issued a major clarification regarding social security pensions, assuring that pensions of beneficiaries paying annual electricity bills above ₹24,000 will not be stopped automatically. The Department of Social Justice and Empowerment has released new orders stating that no pension will be discontinued without a proper verification process.

No Automatic Suspension of Pension
According to the department’s latest directive, district collectors have been instructed to avoid halting pensions arbitrarily. Instead, pensioners whose annual power bills exceed ₹24,000 will be encouraged to voluntarily “give up” their pension if they no longer meet eligibility criteria.
Ashish Modi, Director of the Department, has instructed officials that any decision to stop a pension must be made only after verifying the beneficiary’s income and eligibility. He also ordered a statewide verification drive for all pensioners, to be completed by November 15. District-level officers have been asked to review verification progress weekly.
Minister’s Statement
Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Avinash Gehlot said the government’s objective is not to stop anyone’s pension but to ensure that only eligible individuals continue to benefit.
“The government is sensitive and committed to protecting the rights of eligible beneficiaries. Our goal is to ensure transparency, not to deprive anyone of their rightful pension,” Gehlot said.
He added that around 92 lakh beneficiaries are currently receiving social security pensions across Rajasthan, and the government conducts annual verification to identify and remove ineligible cases.
Earlier Confusion and Protests
The clarification follows confusion created by an earlier order issued on October 9, which directed officials to suspend pensions of about 3.02 lakh beneficiaries with electricity bills exceeding ₹24,000 per year until their eligibility was reviewed. That order had led to statewide protests and public concern.
Minister Gehlot emphasized that the government has now withdrawn the automatic suspension clause and made it clear that no eligible pensioner’s payment will be halted.
