Jaipur, October 13 (Daily Kiran) : Rajasthan’s Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma has instructed the Director General of Police (DGP) to ensure a fair and thorough investigation into the death of former BJP legislator Atar Singh Bhardana. Bhardana was reportedly beaten to death by a mob on Monday over a dispute regarding the reopening of a crusher plant in Bharatpur district.
Hanuman Beniwal, the president of the National Democratic Party (RLP) and MP from Nagaur, has demanded the immediate removal of the Inspector General (IG) and the District Superintendent of Police (SP) in Bharatpur. This demand comes in the wake of growing calls for accountability following the alleged murder of the former legislator from Bayana.
On Monday, Sharma spoke with the DGP to gather detailed information about the incident and assess the situation. Sources indicate that he also discussed the matter with Home State Minister Jawahar Singh Bedham, instructing him to closely monitor developments.
The Chief Minister emphasized the need for a comprehensive investigation to uncover the facts and ensure appropriate action. Beniwal expressed concerns about the state of law and order in Rajasthan and the functioning of the police administration. He reiterated the necessity for an impartial investigation and called for the immediate dismissal of the Bharatpur Range IG and District SP.
Beniwal referenced local residents’ allegations that the attack on Bhardana occurred following incitement from Home Minister Bedham. He stressed that these claims warrant investigation, although they have yet to be substantiated. Meanwhile, a heavy police presence has been deployed in Bhonda village, where tensions remain high following the incident.
Bhardana’s wife, Kamlesh Bhardana, has filed a murder complaint against approximately 80 individuals, naming several alleged attackers. She attempted to save her husband during the assault but was pushed aside and also sustained injuries. The complaint also mentions a prior incident on September 25, when a group allegedly entered the stone-crushing unit, attacked employees, vandalized property, and fled. A complaint regarding that incident was lodged at the Wear police station on September 27.
