Raj Thackeray Warns India of Consequences for Not Supporting Iran

Mumbai, March 19: Raj Thackeray, the leader of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), raised concerns on Thursday regarding the central government’s lack of support for Iran. He emphasized that Iran has been a long-standing ally of India, particularly on the sensitive issue of Jammu and Kashmir. Thackeray warned that failing to back a reliable partner could lead to serious diplomatic and economic repercussions for India.

Speaking at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Park during the Gudi Padwa festival, he highlighted that a significant portion of India’s oil imports comes from Iran, which has supplied it in rupees.

Thackeray criticized the Indian Prime Minister for not issuing a single statement of support when Iran was under attack. He noted the absence of any official message of condolence or protest following the death of Ayatollah Khamenei.

During the MNS’s 20th anniversary celebration, Thackeray described this milestone as a ‘divine sign’ and expressed confidence that his party would eventually restore Maharashtra’s ‘lost pride.’

In his extensive speech, he addressed the state’s rising debt and deteriorating urban infrastructure, while also harshly critiquing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s foreign policy concerning the Iran-Israel conflict.

This was Thackeray’s first speech following the MNS’s significant defeat in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections, where he collaborated with his cousin and Shiv Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray on issues concerning Marathi pride and the interests of the Marathi people.

Turning to domestic matters, Thackeray launched an attack on the state government regarding Maharashtra’s financial situation. He pointed out that during Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan’s tenure in 2014, the state’s debt was approximately 2 lakh crore rupees, which has now ballooned to 11 lakh crore rupees.

He remarked that while the Chief Minister speaks of a 3 trillion dollar economy and development, the state is drowning in debt.
