Mumbai, March 20: During a large public gathering at Shivtirath on the occasion of Gudi Padwa, Raj Thackeray, the leader of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, launched a sharp attack on the state’s law and order situation. He specifically targeted the Home Department under Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
Thackeray expressed deep concern over the increasing spread of drugs, stating that narcotics have now infiltrated schools. He questioned the alarming trend of young boys and girls falling into the trap of substance abuse, asking, “Where are we leading Maharashtra?”
He also highlighted the dire conditions in urban centers. Thackeray pointed out that a lack of development in rural areas is forcing youth to migrate to cities, which are becoming overcrowded and crime-ridden. He linked this urban stress to the rising availability of drugs and the increasing incidents of missing children.
Presenting statistics on missing minors, Thackeray painted a grim picture. He noted that in just 36 days during November and December, approximately 82 children went missing. Between January and November 2025, 499 children were reported missing in Navi Mumbai. Although police efforts have reunited most of these children with their families, 41 remain unaccounted for.
Citing NCRB data, he revealed that every year, 4,500 to 5,500 children go missing in the state. In 2022, there were 5,398 such cases, while 4,619 were recorded in 2023. Thackeray emphasized that the number of missing girls is significantly higher, with over 2,000 cases reported annually in Mumbai alone.
To mark two decades of his party’s journey, Thackeray paid tribute to Maharashtra’s prominent figures, including Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and social reformers like Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and Mahatma Phule. He reminded his supporters of the state’s rich heritage in arts, literature, science, and politics.
On this occasion, he also remembered his mentor, Bal Thackeray, the founder of Shiv Sena, and referenced his legacy of uniting the Marathi community and advocating for Hindutva.
