Raj-Simran Statue Unveiled in London to Mark 30 Years of DDLJ

On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Yash Raj Films’ iconic blockbuster Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ), a grand unveiling of the bronze statue of Raj and Simran took place at Leicester Square, London. The statue was unveiled by Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, marking a historic moment as this is the first Indian film to be honored with a dedicated statue at this prestigious location. The statue now stands proudly alongside global cultural icons such as Harry Potter, Mary Poppins, Paddington, and Wonder Woman.

The statue captures the famous pose of Raj and Simran, which has left an indelible mark on pop culture memories among South Asian communities. Expressing his emotions on this occasion, Shah Rukh Khan said that no one had imagined DDLJ would become such a huge phenomenon. He also mentioned that the UK, especially London, has been an important part of his career and stardom journey. According to him, this recognition is a proud moment for the entire Indian film industry.

Kajol also expressed her happiness over this achievement, saying that even after 30 years, DDLJ remains one of the longest-running films in the world and is listed in the Guinness World Records. She noted that the film has become an emotional symbol for Indians living abroad, and the statue will remind them of ‘home’. Released in 1995, the love story of DDLJ starts in Europe and concludes in India. The film continues to be a vibrant and unforgettable part of Indian cinema’s cultural heritage.
