Chennai, September 5 (Daily Kiran) : Chennai is bracing for light to moderate rainfall this Saturday, as predicted by the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC). Thunderstorms are particularly likely in the western districts of Tamil Nadu and parts of southern Tamil Nadu.
Current atmospheric conditions in the state remain favorable for rain. A cyclonic circulation is present at an altitude of approximately 7.6 kilometers over the southwest Bay of Bengal, near the Tamil Nadu coast. Additionally, a low-pressure area extends from southern interior Karnataka to the Gulf of Mannar at an average sea level of about 0.9 kilometers.
A weak low-pressure circulation in the lower atmosphere near the Tamil Nadu coast has merged with the existing weather system, increasing the chances of scattered rainfall.
On Saturday, areas in the western districts and the districts of Madurai, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, and Virudhunagar may experience light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms. Other regions of Tamil Nadu, as well as Puducherry and Karaikal, could also see similar weather.
From September 6 to 8, isolated light rain is expected across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. Rainfall activity may increase slightly on September 9 and 10, with light to moderate showers forecast for the western districts, northern Tamil Nadu, and select areas in Puducherry and Karaikal.
While light rain is anticipated in other parts of the state, the meteorological department noted that maximum temperatures along the coast of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal will remain relatively stable from September 5 to 8. However, a slight increase in temperatures is expected in the interior districts, with some areas reaching two to four degrees Celsius above normal. Coastal regions are likely to experience seasonal temperatures.
In Chennai, the maximum temperature is expected to range between 35 to 36 degrees Celsius, while the minimum may fall between 26 to 27 degrees Celsius. No warnings have been issued for fishermen operating in the Bay of Bengal or the Arabian Sea from September 5 to 8.
