Bhopal, October 17 (Daily Kiran): The Meteorological Department has issued a rainfall alert for Madhya Pradesh, predicting light showers in the southern parts of the state over the next three days. While clouds are likely to cover several areas, no heavy rainfall warning has been issued.

Interestingly, the monsoon officially withdrew from the entire state just four days ago, yet light rain continues in a few districts. According to the department, a cyclonic circulation has developed over the southeast Arabian Sea and the adjoining Lakshadweep region. This system is expected to intensify into a low-pressure area by October 19. The prevailing easterly winds are contributing to cloudy skies and intermittent drizzle across parts of the state.

The weather department has forecast light rainfall in several southern districts including Indore, Ujjain, Jabalpur, Narmadapuram, Chhindwara, Khandwa, Jhabua, Dhar, Alirajpur, Khargone, Barwani, Burhanpur, Dewas, Agar Malwa, Neemuch, Shajapur, Ratlam, Betul, Harda, Katni, Seoni, Narsinghpur, Dindori, Balaghat, and Mandla on Friday and Saturday (October 17–18).

Meanwhile, the onset of winter has also begun in parts of Madhya Pradesh. The minimum temperature has dropped below 20°C in at least 15 cities. The lowest temperature, 16°C, was recorded in Khandwa on Wednesday night, while Khajuraho witnessed the highest daytime temperature at 34.2°C.

This year, the monsoon was particularly strong across Madhya Pradesh, lasting for 3 months and 28 days — marking the third heaviest spell in the past decade. Bhopal, Gwalior, and around 30 other districts experienced above-normal rainfall.

Guna district received the highest rainfall of the season at 65.7 inches, while Sheopur recorded 216.3% of its average rainfall. Experts say this abundant rain has replenished drinking water and irrigation reserves, keeping groundwater levels healthy. However, Shajapur received the least rainfall — just 28.9 inches, around 81.1% of the normal. The department had earlier predicted 106% rainfall for the season, but the state eventually received 15% more than expected.
