Quinton de Kock Breaks MS Dhonis Record in IPL 2026

Mumbai, April 16: In the 24th match of IPL 2026, the Mumbai Indians (MI) faced off against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) at Wankhede Stadium on Thursday. MI’s batsman Quinton de Kock delivered an impressive performance, breaking a significant record previously held by MS Dhoni.

De Kock has now become the second wicketkeeper-batsman in IPL history to score more than 50 runs in a match 25 times. This achievement surpasses MS Dhoni, who had accomplished this feat 24 times in the league. Leading the list is KL Rahul, who has scored over 50 runs on 31 occasions.

De Kock was included in the playing eleven for this match in place of the injured Rohit Sharma. After losing the toss, MI struggled initially, with Ryan Rickelton dismissed for just 2 runs after facing 8 balls. Sunil Kumar Yadav also fell without scoring, sent back to the pavilion by Arshdeep Singh. However, De Kock formed a crucial partnership of 122 runs for the third wicket with Naman Dheer, off just 68 balls. Dheer contributed significantly with a powerful 50 runs from 31 balls, including 3 fours and 3 sixes.

In this match, the Mumbai Indians made two changes to their playing eleven. Rohit Sharma was sidelined due to a hamstring injury, and Mitchell Santner was also unavailable due to fitness issues. Mayank Rawat replaced Santner in the lineup. After starting IPL 2026 with a victory, the Mumbai Indians have faced three consecutive losses in their last matches.
