Chandigarh, June 29: Vikram Singh Majithia, General Secretary of the Shiromani Akali Dal, has criticized the Punjab government over the ongoing electricity crisis and its impact on farmers and paddy cultivation. He also commented on the recent video controversy involving Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
Majithia stated, “The Aam Aadmi Party government has failed on all fronts, and Bhagwant Mann has deceived every section of society—farmers, youth, employees, and the industrial sector. Today, Punjab is drowning in debt and grappling with an economic crisis. A new crisis is emerging, as Punjab is an agriculture-dependent state. Everything here relies on farming. If agriculture fails, our state’s economy will collapse. Unfortunately, the Chief Minister is lying about every issue.”
He pointed out that CM Mann had promised 24-hour electricity supply. However, the reality is starkly different, with people now protesting due to power shortages. This situation threatens agricultural productivity, as crops are deteriorating without adequate irrigation. Farmers are also struggling to obtain urea. “The Chief Minister is oblivious to the public’s hardships. AAP leaders are performing street plays while the citizens are suffering,” Majithia added.
He emphasized, “During our government, people enjoyed 24-hour electricity and had forgotten about generators. Now, under Mann’s administration, people are forced to use generators for irrigating their crops. The government has failed to provide the essential electricity and water that farmers need.”
Majithia further remarked, “People are uploading videos, and the Chief Minister is making various claims. Mann continues to assert that 24-hour water supply is available, yet protests persist. He claims that water has been distributed, but the reality is that people are still without it. For the past four and a half years, the Chief Minister has promised to build medical colleges, but not even a single room has been constructed for them.”
