Amritsar, May 6: Following explosions in Jalandhar and Amritsar, Punjab’s Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav stated that there are indications of a potential conspiracy by Pakistan’s ISI to disrupt the state ahead of the first anniversary of ‘Operation Sindoor.’
In a press conference, DGP Yadav shared, “I visited Amritsar today, where I inspected the site of a low-intensity explosion that occurred in the army area yesterday. After assessing the scene, I met with military officials to discuss mutual security concerns. Subsequently, I held meetings with senior officials from the Amritsar Commissionerate and Border Range to review the security situation and provide necessary directives.”
The low-intensity blast was reported around 10:50 PM near the walls of the Khalsa Army Camp. This incident occurred just two hours after another explosion near the BSF headquarters in Jalandhar.
He further noted that senior Punjab police officials, including the SSP of Amritsar Rural, promptly arrived at the scene. Bomb disposal squads and forensic teams from the Border Security Force (BSF) were also deployed.
DGP Yadav confirmed that the area has been thoroughly sanitized, and evidence and samples have been collected for scientific investigation. An FIR has been filed under relevant sections of the law. The investigation is ongoing in collaboration with the army and other agencies, as we gather information from all sources.
Providing details on the ongoing investigation, he mentioned that multiple teams are analyzing human intelligence, technical intelligence, and forensic evidence. A systematic, scientific, and meticulous inquiry is underway. Although the explosion was of low intensity, the exact nature of the device and the blast’s characteristics will only be determined after forensic analysis is complete.
He also pointed out that no group has claimed responsibility for the incident so far, but he hinted at possible Pakistani involvement.
He stated, “So far, no one has taken responsibility for this incident, but we believe it could be part of a conspiracy by Pakistan’s ISI to create unrest in Punjab on the anniversary of Operation Blue Star. Punjab is fighting a proxy war against Pakistan on behalf of the country. We will coordinate our investigation to apprehend the culprits.”
Earlier, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann condemned these incidents, labeling them as attempts by the BJP to incite violence ahead of the 2027 assembly elections.
Addressing reporters, CM Mann claimed that these minor explosions are part of the BJP’s preparations for elections in Punjab. “In any state where they contest elections, they first instigate riots, orchestrate small explosions, create conflicts, and divide people on religious and caste lines. This indicates the BJP’s strategy for Punjab.”
He assured that peace would be maintained, law and order ensured, and the guilty punished severely. “I want to tell the BJP that Punjab has seen many dark days. The people of Punjab will not tolerate such actions anymore. Punjabis are peace-loving individuals.”
