Punjab Congress President Accuses Anti-Drone Officer of Drug Trafficking

Punjab Congress leader Paragat Singh claims a police officer assigned to an anti-drone system was caught trafficking drugs, raising concerns over drug control efforts.

Chandigarh, October 15 (Daily Kiran) : Paragat Singh, the President of the Punjab Congress, has raised serious allegations regarding the state’s anti-drug campaign, known as ‘Yudh Nasha Virudh.’ He took to the social media platform X to reveal that a police officer, assigned to an anti-drone system aimed at curbing cross-border drug trafficking, was apprehended for trafficking drugs himself.

In his post, Singh highlighted that the officer was caught with 15 kilograms of heroin. He questioned the integrity of the anti-drug efforts, stating, “What a joke it is under the guise of ‘Yudh Nasha Virudh’ when those responsible for stopping drug trafficking are themselves caught in the act.”

Singh’s comments point to broader concerns about the political and police protection that drug cartels in Punjab may be receiving. The Punjab government has implemented an anti-drone system called ‘Baaz Akh,’ meaning ‘Eagle Eye,’ to combat illegal activities along the international border. This initiative was launched under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann in the Tarntaran district and other bordering areas.

Approved in May, the system is designed to detect, track, jam, and neutralize drones operating within an 8 to 10-kilometer radius. Its primary goal is to prevent the smuggling of weapons and drugs, including heroin, across the Punjab-Pakistan border.

Opposition parties in Punjab have seized on this incident, arguing that it undermines the government’s anti-drug campaign and raises doubts about its effectiveness.
