Punjab Congress Chief Criticizes AAP Government for Brief Assembly Session
Punjab Congress leader Paragat Singh condemns AAP for ending assembly session in just nine minutes, avoiding accountability on key issues.

Chandigarh, October 22 (Daily Kiran) : Paragat Singh, the President of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government for abruptly concluding the assembly session in just nine minutes. He accused the state government of evading accountability instead of addressing crucial issues, including the murder of anti-drug activist Parminder Singh Jhota.
Singh held Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann responsible for the deteriorating administrative situation in the state, demanding his resignation. He expressed concern that governance in Punjab appears to be non-existent.
“Government employees, computer teachers, primary teachers, and staff from the Pepsu Road Transport Corporation (PRTC) are all struggling for their rights. Yet, the state government is finding ways to avoid addressing their grievances,” he stated.
He further noted that AAP had made grand promises for governance in Punjab but now the state is witnessing severe administrative mismanagement and a lack of accountability.
Singh accused those managing Punjab from Delhi of politically distancing themselves from the situation while still being responsible for the damage to the state. He asserted that once Congress regains power, all individuals who have harmed Punjab’s interests will be held accountable.
He estimated that the number of those responsible could range from 125 to 150, emphasizing that no one would be spared.
In response to Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to Punjab, Singh welcomed him but stressed that mere visits and political statements would not resolve the state’s issues. He urged the central government to clarify the concrete steps taken to curb drug trafficking and protect Punjab’s interests.
Singh also mentioned that if a demand for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the Jhota case arises, the central government should consider it seriously and take appropriate action. He questioned the BJP’s policies, insisting that the central government’s role and accountability regarding matters affecting Punjab must be clearly defined.
