Firozpur, August 15: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann stated that the 80th year of India’s independence marks a significant milestone for the women of Punjab. For the first time, mothers and daughters are gaining the freedom to spend their money as they wish.
He announced that over 6.5 million women have already received honorarium under the ‘Mawan Dhiyaan Satkar Scheme,’ which has registered 7.459 million women.
During the state-level ceremony held for the 80th Independence Day, CM Mann hoisted the national flag and emphasized that his government is committed to fulfilling the aspirations of the people. He aims to ensure the welfare of all and create a prosperous and vibrant Punjab, staying true to the legacy of great freedom fighters.
Mann highlighted that this spirit of empowerment is being advanced through improvements in education and healthcare, job opportunities for youth, irrigation for fields, a decisive fight against drug abuse, and enhanced public safety. He also reaffirmed the importance of maintaining Punjab’s identity of peace, brotherhood, and communal harmony.
The Chief Minister extended heartfelt Independence Day wishes to all citizens, especially the people of Punjab.
He paid tribute to the sacred land of Firozpur, which holds a significant place in India’s freedom struggle. He remembered the 21 brave Sikh soldiers of the Saragarhi battle, commemorated at the historic Gurudwara Saragarhi Sahib.
While honoring the martyrs of Hussainiwala, Mann reflected on the extraordinary lives and sacrifices of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh, Shaheed Rajguru, and Shaheed Sukhdev. He noted that a heritage complex is being constructed in Hussainiwala at a cost of ₹25 crores to honor these heroes.
Mann praised the courageous people of this border district for standing strong against threats from across the border, natural disasters, and other challenges. He acknowledged the contributions of the border communities to the nation and Punjab.
He remarked on the long and arduous struggle for independence, highlighting that Punjab paid the highest price during the partition in 1947, forcing millions of families to leave their homes and land.
Mann expressed that even today, every Punjabi prays for open access to their sacred Gurdwaras and religious sites across the border. He noted that such a massive migration in human history is rare, emphasizing that it was not just a division of land but a separation of families, relationships, and emotions.
He acknowledged that future generations will continue to feel the pain of this tragedy, but it is a matter of pride that the spirit of patriotism runs deep in the hearts of Punjabis.
In a stern warning to forces attempting to disrupt Punjab’s peace and brotherhood, CM Mann stated, “On this historic occasion, I caution those who wish to harm Punjab’s tranquility, harmony, and communal brotherhood. Punjab’s sacred land has always conveyed a message of unity and goodwill, and we are people who wish for ‘Sarbat Da Bhala.’ Here, only flowers of love can bloom, not hatred.”
