Mumbai, March 3: Congress leader Hussain Dalwai commented on the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, stating that he was a prominent figure in Iran. He questioned whether it is appropriate to celebrate his death, acknowledging that some people may feel sorrow and that protesting in response is not inherently wrong.
Dalwai responded to an article by Sonia Gandhi regarding Khamenei’s death, asserting that the United States and Israel are orchestrating events in Iran. He criticized U.S. politics, claiming that they dictate global affairs. “Why should you determine who governs in other countries? It shows a lack of understanding and belief,” he stated, emphasizing that India has maintained good relations with Iran.
He also noted that Sonia Gandhi raised an important point about the absence of a response from the Indian government following Khamenei’s death. Dalwai urged the government to take the lead in such matters, as Iran has historically been an ally. He advocated for dialogue rather than escalating conflicts.
When asked about the rift within the MVA regarding the Rajya Sabha seat, Dalwai mentioned that Congress leaders believe Mallikarjun Kharge should lead. He stressed the importance of maintaining the current representation for two years before making changes. He suggested that Uddhav Thackeray should contest for the Legislative Council seat, praising Congress for proposing a viable formula to resolve the issue.
Dalwai also addressed comments made by Minister Nitesh Rane, urging him to focus on development in Konkan, where local fish populations have suffered due to chemical industries. He highlighted the unique biodiversity of the region and criticized Rane for engaging in religious politics instead of fulfilling his ministerial duties.
