Islamabad, April 23: A minority rights organization has reported the brutal murder of a young Hindu businessman in Sindh, Pakistan, raising alarms about the safety of minorities in the country.
According to the Voice of Pakistan Minority (VOPM), Vishal Kumar was shot in broad daylight in Sukkur. This incident has created an atmosphere of fear and insecurity throughout the city.
Eyewitnesses reported that armed assailants entered Vishal’s shop and opened fire indiscriminately, leaving him critically injured. He later succumbed to his injuries, leaving behind a wife, children, and a grieving family. The attackers fled the scene and remain at large.
VOPM stated, “Sukkur, once a vibrant city, now lives under the shadow of fear. People are more cautious with their children. Shopkeepers are closing their stores early, and minorities, especially Hindus, are living in constant dread. A local resident expressed, ‘How can we sleep peacefully at night? This is not just a murder; it raises significant questions about the safety of our entire community.’”
The human rights organization criticized Pakistani authorities for hastily labeling the incident as a “murder during a robbery.” However, Vishal’s brother vehemently rejected this claim.
He stated, “Nothing was stolen. He was shot at close range. This was not a robbery; it was clearly a premeditated murder.”
The incident has sparked deep fear and anger within the Hindu community in Sindh. VOPM highlighted that such daylight murders, coupled with weak investigations and rising criminal gangs, leave people feeling unsafe. If justice is not served quickly and transparently, conditions may worsen.
The organization emphasized that Vishal’s death is not just a statistic; it represents a significant loss for his family and a blow to the safety of the entire city.
VOPM concluded, “Justice is crucial; it is what holds society together. The question now is whether authorities will act before the next incident. The people of Sukkur are waiting for answers in this atmosphere of fear.”
