Productivity Soars in Parliaments Budget Session with 109.87% Efficiency

New Delhi, April 18: The 270th session of the Rajya Sabha concluded on Saturday, marking the end of the Parliament’s budget session. Throughout this session, the Rajya Sabha operated smoothly, achieving a productivity rate exceeding 100%. The total working hours for the session amounted to 157 hours and 40 minutes.

Remarkably, the productivity of the Rajya Sabha reached 109.87%. During this session, a total of 117 questions were raised, and 446 zero-hour mentions were made. Additionally, 207 special mentions were presented by Rajya Sabha members. At the conclusion of the budget session, Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan expressed gratitude to all party members.

He acknowledged the valuable contributions of MPs, stating that their insights enriched the proceedings. The budget session holds significant importance among the three parliamentary sessions. It is not only the longest session but also plays a crucial role in shaping the country’s development trajectory. The budget passed during this session, along with approved policies and priorities, directly impacts the lives of every citizen.

This year’s budget session is the longest, commencing with a motion of thanks for the President’s address, which was discussed in detail over four days. In this extensive discussion, 79 members of the Rajya Sabha actively participated. Following that, there was a serious and comprehensive discussion on the Central Budget for 2026-27, involving 97 members. Meaningful discussions were also held regarding the activities of two key ministries. The House paid attention to statements made by Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on the India-U.S. bilateral trade agreement and the Foreign Minister regarding the situation in West Asia.

The Chairman noted that the Prime Minister’s remarks on the current situation in West Asia and the challenges arising from it, particularly concerning India’s energy needs, clarified the situation and underscored the need for national unity. Upon the session’s conclusion, the Chairman expressed pleasure in announcing that 50 private member bills were presented during this session. Members also expressed their views in 12 regional languages included in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution on 94 occasions.

Additionally, Harivansh Narayan Singh was elected as the Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha for the third time. Leaders and members from all parties congratulated him. The Chairman thanked the Deputy Chairman, the Deputy Chairman’s panel members, the Leader of the House, the Leader of the Opposition, the Parliamentary Affairs Ministry, leaders from various parties, and all members for their cooperation in the smooth functioning of the House. He also urged Rajya Sabha members to use Rule 267 only in necessary circumstances to avoid wasting valuable time.
