Sakshi Sharma Brings Glory to India with Commonwealth Gold in Kabaddi

Celebrations erupt in Jind as Sakshi Sharma wins gold in kabaddi at the Commonwealth Games, making her family and village proud.

Jind, November 1 (Daily Kiran) : The Indian women’s kabaddi team captured the gold medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, defeating Uganda. Among the victorious squad was Sakshi Sharma, a resident of Jind, Haryana. Her remarkable achievement has ignited celebrations in her home and village.

Sakshi’s grandmother, Murti Devi, expressed her joy, saying, “I am very happy. My granddaughter has dreamed of playing kabaddi since childhood. We watched the match together, and it was thrilling. The entire village tuned in, and everyone agrees that she has brought honor to our community. She should aim even higher.” Murti noted that Sakshi is her eldest son’s daughter and has two sisters and one brother.

“She loves all kinds of food. I will give her a grand welcome with milk and yogurt when she returns. She has been playing for 12 years, starting when she was in seventh grade,” she added.

Sakshi’s mother, Kavita Devi, shared her pride, stating, “I am overjoyed. The village set up a large screen, and everyone gathered to watch the match together. We are all thrilled that our daughter has brought home a medal for the country. She has made our village and nation proud. We should all have daughters like her. Daughters are no less than sons. I sent her off with churma, as she loves milk, ghee, and churma.”

Kavita emphasized Sakshi’s passion for kabaddi, hoping she will compete at the Olympic level. “This is not just my dream, but the dream of the entire village. She has received support from everyone here. We will distribute laddoos when she returns, and we will prepare whatever she desires,” she said.

Sakshi’s father, Chudiya Ram, expressed immense pride in his daughter’s accomplishments. “She has made my name, our village’s name, Jind district’s name, Haryana’s name, and now, the country’s name shine. What more could I ask for? I want her to work hard and achieve even greater heights,” he remarked.
