Prime Minister Modi Departs for Sweden After Successful Netherlands Visit

Amsterdam, May 17: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has departed for Sweden after completing his visit to the Netherlands. During his time at the airport, Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten bid farewell to PM Modi with a warm embrace, symbolizing the close ties and warmth between the two nations.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi and Rob Jetten visited the Afsluitdijk Dam, a significant example of Dutch expertise in water management, flood protection, and freshwater storage.

Following the visit, PM Modi took to social media platform ‘X’ to express, “The Netherlands has done remarkable work in the field of water resources. The world can learn a lot from them. This morning, I had the opportunity to see the Afsluitdijk project and understand its unique features. I thank Prime Minister Rob Jetten for accompanying me here.”

He added that efforts are underway to bring modern technology to India for irrigation, flood control, and the expansion of inland waterways.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated that on Saturday, PM Modi met Rob Jetten at his official residence, ‘Catshuis,’ in The Hague. According to the MEA’s statement, both leaders discussed ways to strengthen India-Netherlands relations in detail.

Given the growing trust, shared values, and strengthening cooperation between the two countries, the leaders decided to elevate their relationship to a ‘Strategic Partnership.’

They also agreed on an ambitious roadmap to enhance collaboration in trade and investment, defense and security, new and critical technologies, the maritime sector, renewable energy, and education.

Both leaders acknowledged that India’s rapidly growing economy presents significant business opportunities for Dutch companies.

Highlighting the importance of cooperation in water, agriculture, and health (WASH), both nations agreed to work together on major water projects and strengthen their partnership further.

In discussing cultural ties, PM Modi thanked the Dutch government for returning 11th-century Chola-era copper plates. The leaders also welcomed the collaboration between the Leiden University Library and the Archaeological Survey of India, which will provide better insights into these historical treasures.

After the official talks, 14 agreements and MOUs were signed in the fields of technology, green energy, trade, transportation, WASH, education, and culture.
