New Delhi, August 15: President Droupadi Murmu stated on Friday that prioritizing the upliftment of marginalized communities in recent years has led to over 250 million people rising above poverty.
In her address to the nation on the eve of the 80th Independence Day, the President emphasized that nearly 590 million account holders are now connected to the banking system through the world’s largest financial inclusion program, the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana. Among these, more than 320 million account holders are women. She further mentioned that food security has been ensured for over 800 million people by providing free rations.
Despite wars and instability in many parts of the world, the Indian economy is projected to grow at more than double the global average. In these challenging circumstances, our economy continues to advance as one of the fastest-growing major economies.
Additionally, under the Ayushman Bharat Prime Minister Jan Arogya Yojana, 600 million people receive free health coverage of up to 500,000 rupees annually. The Kisan Samman Nidhi and Kisan Credit Card schemes have provided support to farmers engaged in agriculture, dairy, poultry, fisheries, and beekeeping.
President Murmu also noted that India has developed the largest and most advanced digital infrastructure globally. Digital payments have become common even among small rural shops and street vendors. More than half of the real-time digital transactions worldwide occur in India.
She highlighted that the people and government of India have collectively showcased an example of digital revolution to the global community. By leveraging technology, the government has transparently delivered welfare schemes to the people.
