Preeti Pawars Medal Hopes Dashed at Asian Games 2026, Sachin Advances to Quarterfinals

Indian boxer Preeti Pawar loses in the Round of 16 at the Asian Games 2026, while Sachin secures a place in the quarterfinals.

Nishio, September 25 (Daily Kiran) : In Nishio, on September 25, Indian boxer Preeti Pawar faced a disappointing defeat in the Round of 16 at the Asian Games 2026. Competing in the 54-kilogram category, she was up against North Korea’s two-time world champion, Pang Chol-mi. This loss ended her dreams of winning a medal at the event.

Pang dominated the match, ultimately defeating the bronze medalist from the Hangzhou Asian Games with a unanimous 5-0 decision. Preeti received a bye in the first round, while her North Korean opponent had previously triumphed over Indonesia’s Nabila Maharani in the Round of 32.

From the outset, Pang showcased her prowess, not allowing Preeti to dictate the pace of the fight. She won the first round decisively and continued her strong performance into the second round. Despite Preeti’s attempts to recover in the final round, Pang remained in control, landing calculated punches while Preeti struggled to respond effectively. In the end, Pang secured the third round 5-0, sealing her victory.

In contrast, Indian boxer Sachin advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating Jordan’s former Asian champion and world bronze medalist, Mohammad Abu Jajaeh, with a split decision of 4-1. Sachin, who won gold at the Commonwealth Games 2026, received two cards of 30-27 and two of 29-28, while one card was 28-29.

The match began slowly, but Sachin edged out the first round with a narrow 3-2 victory. He improved significantly in the second round, landing precise punches to build a 4-1 lead. Although the Jordanian boxer attempted a comeback in the third round, many of his punches missed their target. Sachin maintained his advantage, winning that round 4-1 as well, thereby securing his place in the next stage. He will now face world bronze medalist Shunsuke Kitamoto in the quarterfinals, aiming for his first medal at the Asian Games.
