Mumbai, March 6: The Mumbai Crime Branch has made a significant breakthrough in the shooting incident at Bollywood filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s residence. The police have arrested Praveen Lonkar, the 13th accused in the case. The court has remanded him to police custody until March 16.
According to officials from the Mumbai Crime Branch, Praveen Lonkar, the brother of the mastermind Shubham Lonkar, was taken into custody from Arthur Road Jail. He is already incarcerated for his involvement in the murder case of Baba Siddiqui. Following his arrest, the Crime Branch presented him in a special MCOCA court in Mumbai, where the judge ordered his custody until March 16.
A senior officer from the Mumbai police stated that Praveen Lonkar’s role became evident during the investigation, leading to his arrest. It was revealed that he played a crucial part in the conspiracy even while in jail. The Crime Branch’s investigation uncovered that three weapons, including the gun used in the shooting at Rohit Shetty’s home, were hidden at an undisclosed location known only to Praveen Lonkar.
According to the police, under Praveen Lonkar’s instructions, accused Asaram Fasle retrieved the three firearms from that location. These weapons were later handed over to another accused, Swapnil Sakat. Investigative agencies have indicated that the Pune module was responsible for providing the vehicle and weapons used in the shooting incident. The police believe that Praveen Lonkar coordinated this entire module.
The Mumbai Crime Branch plans to interrogate Praveen Lonkar alongside previously arrested suspects, including those apprehended from Pune and Uttar Pradesh. Authorities are hopeful that this questioning will lead to further significant revelations about the conspiracy.
The police assert that Praveen Lonkar’s arrest could unveil more critical information regarding the case and potentially expose the entire network involved. The investigation is ongoing, with efforts to explore other aspects of the conspiracy.
