Political Outcry Over Abduction of NEET Student in Mahoba

Lucknow, May 11: The abduction case of NEET aspirant Nisha Ahirwar from Mahoba has sparked significant political controversy. Following a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Ajay Rai, the Congress state president, has also written to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, demanding the safe recovery of the student and strict action against the accused.

In his letter to the Chief Minister, Rai emphasized the seriousness of the incident involving the 25-year-old student from Madhya Pradesh, who was preparing for the NEET exam. He alleged that the victim had been facing harassment and threats from named assailants prior to her abduction. Despite the family informing the police repeatedly, effective action was not taken in a timely manner.

Rai’s correspondence raises critical questions about the state government’s claims regarding law and order and women’s safety. He referenced data from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), highlighting the alarming rate of crimes against women in Uttar Pradesh, while also criticizing the police’s lack of initiative in filing FIRs and taking necessary action.

The Congress leader urged the Chief Minister to ensure the immediate safe recovery of the student, to swiftly arrest the named suspects, and to take stringent legal action against them. He also called for providing security and judicial assistance to the victim’s family, along with an investigation into the local police’s role, advocating for punitive measures if negligence is found.

Earlier, a similar demand for a fair investigation and the safe recovery of the student was made in the letter to Home Minister Amit Shah. The opposition continues to link this issue to women’s safety and law enforcement, mounting pressure on the state government.
