Police Uncover LPG Cylinder Hoarding Racket in New Delhi

New Delhi, March 26: The Delhi Police’s Crime Branch (WR-I) conducted a series of raids in the Ranohola area based on intelligence reports. These operations revealed an illegal storage and refilling racket involving LPG cylinders. During the raids, a total of 459 empty gas cylinders were seized.

In light of concerns regarding a potential LPG shortage, a special team was formed to apprehend hoarders. Led by Inspector Pradeep, this team received confidential information about the hoarding of LPG cylinders in the Ranohola area.

Following this, the team raided the HP Balaji Gas Agency located on Nitholi Road. During the operation, the agency’s owner, Sushil Kumar Singhal, a resident of Nihal Vihar, was found actively involved in the illegal hoarding of LPG cylinders. The Food Supply Officer (FSO), Jag Pravesh, was immediately called to the scene to take necessary action.

The seized cylinders were handed over to Sanjay Kumar Mehta, the sales area manager of Hindustan Petroleum Gas. A case has been registered at the Crime Branch police station, and an investigation has commenced. In total, 459 empty commercial cylinders were recovered during the operation.

The owner of the gas agency was found to be abusing stock control by engaging in the illegal hoarding and black marketing of LPG cylinders. Instead of adhering to established rules and regulations, he secretly accumulated a large number of commercial LPG cylinders (Indane and Bharat Petroleum) on his agency premises without any valid permits.

By exploiting disruptions in gas supply and the resulting demand-supply gap, the accused deliberately withheld cylinders from legitimate distribution channels to create an artificial shortage. He intended to sell the accumulated cylinders at inflated prices in the open market, thereby making illegal profits. The illegal stock was concealed under the guise of regular commercial inventory to avoid detection by enforcement agencies.
