Police Inspector Dies in Accidental Shooting While Cleaning Service Revolver in Telangana

Nizamabad, September 18 (Daily Kiran) : A tragic incident occurred in Nizamabad, Telangana, on September 18, when a police inspector accidentally shot himself while cleaning his service revolver. The officer, identified as Reserve Inspector H. Satish, was in the district police headquarters after completing his duty.

According to police reports, the gun discharged unexpectedly as Satish was handling the weapon, resulting in severe injuries. Colleagues rushed to the scene upon hearing the gunfire, but he succumbed to his injuries before reaching the hospital.

Authorities have sent the body for a post-mortem examination and initiated an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the accidental discharge. Initially, there were concerns that the inspector may have taken his own life, but police later clarified that it was indeed an accident during the cleaning process.

This incident raises alarms, particularly in light of recent cases of suicides among police personnel in Telangana. On World Suicide Prevention Day, September 10, Director General of Police C.V. Anand urged the state’s approximately 93,000 officers to seek help for any personal or financial issues, emphasizing the importance of reaching out to family, colleagues, and superiors.

The department has found that online gambling-related debts were a significant factor in two recent suicide cases over the past four months, highlighting the need for mental health support within the force.
