
Mumbai, August 16: In a surprising case from the Borivali area of Mumbai, police have arrested an individual for cultivating hydroponic cannabis after learning techniques from YouTube videos. Authorities uncovered an illegal lab and apprehended one suspect, while efforts continue to locate a second individual involved.
The police dismantled the illegal lab located in Ganpat Patil Nagar, M.H.B. Colony. Investigations revealed that the accused were attempting to grow hydroponic cannabis using scientific methods learned from online tutorials. The lab was equipped with controlled temperature, humidity, and pH levels, along with grow LED lights and other necessary equipment.
From the site, police seized approximately 54 grams of hydroponic cannabis valued at around ₹1.62 lakh. Additionally, they confiscated about 189 grams of wet cannabis, worth approximately ₹2.5 lakh, along with farming tools used in the operation. One suspect, identified as Babbu Kamat, has been arrested, while the main accused, Rahul Thakur, remains at large.
In a separate incident on Saturday, police arrested a man for fraudulently promising government jobs. The suspect had been evading capture for two years, concealing his identity to avoid arrest. His apprehension also led to the resolution of three other cases.
The arrested individual has been identified as Yogesh Patankar. A complaint was filed against him at the Azad Maidan police station. According to police reports, Patankar deceived numerous individuals between 2014 and July 15, 2026, promising to secure government jobs for their children and swindling them out of large sums of money. An FIR was registered in this case on July 29, 2026.
