PM Modi Leads High-Level Meeting Amid West Asia Crisis to Ensure Fuel Supply Stability

New Delhi, March 22: Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high-level meeting on Sunday to review the status of petroleum, crude oil, gas, electricity, and fertilizers. This meeting aimed to ensure uninterrupted supply and stable distribution amid the ongoing crisis in West Asia.

The primary focus of the meeting was to maintain a seamless supply chain, ensure stable logistics, and streamline distribution systems across the country to prevent any disruptions in essential services.

During the discussions, officials briefed the Prime Minister on the current availability of fuel and the measures being taken to ensure India’s energy security.

According to sources, the government is closely monitoring global developments and is taking proactive steps to shield consumers and industries from fluctuations in international markets.

Efforts are underway to maintain adequate reserves and strengthen supply chains amid rising geopolitical uncertainties.

This review comes at a time when ongoing conflicts in West Asia are causing instability in global energy markets. This region is considered crucial for oil and gas supplies.

Concerns were also raised about potential disruptions in key maritime routes, particularly in the Strait of Hormuz, which handles a significant portion of global energy trade.

Just a day prior, Prime Minister Modi spoke with Iranian President Masoud Pajeshkian, emphasizing the need for peace and stability while discussing the regional situation.

He highlighted the importance of keeping international maritime routes open and secure, warning that any disruptions could impact global supply chains.

To reduce dependence on the Middle East, India has diversified its oil and gas imports, increasing purchases from sources like the United States, Russia, and African nations such as Nigeria.

Officials noted that approximately 70 percent of India’s oil imports now come from sources outside the Gulf region.

The government has also intensified efforts for LPG supply management, including the procurement of liquefied petroleum gas from the United States to address potential shortages.

However, concerns regarding LPG availability persist. Officials state that there have been no disruptions at the consumer level, and online bookings have seen a significant increase.
