
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a roundtable discussion with Indian AI startups on Thursday at his official residence, 7 Lok Kalyan Marg. This meeting took place ahead of the India AI Impact Summit 2026, scheduled for next month.
During the meeting chaired by the Prime Minister, 12 AI startups that qualified for the AI for All: Global Impact Challenge participated. They shared insights about their work and ideas across various sectors.
A statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office highlighted that these startups are engaged in fields such as healthcare, multilingual large language models, material research, data analytics, engineering simulation, and more.
Prime Minister Modi emphasised the transformative role of artificial intelligence in society. He said that India will host the India AI Impact Summit next month, marking the country’s significant role in the technology sector. He noted that India is committed to driving change through AI.
The Prime Minister stressed that startups and AI entrepreneurs are co-creators of India’s future. He pointed out the country’s vast potential for both innovation and large-scale implementation.
He further added that India should present a unique AI model to the world that reflects the spirit of “Made in India, Made for the World.”
Highlighting India’s global trust, Modi said it is the country’s greatest strength. He urged that the Indian AI model must be ethical, fair, transparent, and based on data privacy principles. He also mentioned India’s capacity to promote affordable, inclusive AI and innovation on a global scale.
The Prime Minister suggested that Indian AI models should be distinctive and promote local and indigenous content along with regional languages.
The meeting included CEOs, leaders, and representatives from prominent Indian AI startups such as Avatar, BharatGen, Fractal, GAN, Genlope, Giani, IntelliHealth, Sarvam, Shodh AI, Socket AI, Tech Mahindra, and Gentic. Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Minister of State Jitin Prasad also attended the discussion.
