PM Modi Discusses Middle East Conflict with Bahrains King Hamad

New Delhi, March 20: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a conversation on Friday with King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain regarding the current situation in the Middle East. He condemned the recent attacks on energy and infrastructure in the region.

During the phone call, PM Modi extended Eid greetings to King Hamad and thanked him for his ongoing support for the welfare of the Indian community in Bahrain.

In a statement shared on the social media platform X, PM Modi expressed, “I had a meaningful discussion with King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. I conveyed my heartfelt Eid-ul-Fitr wishes to him and the people of Bahrain. We discussed the current state of the Middle East, condemning the attacks on energy and civilian infrastructure, and highlighted their adverse effects on global food, fuel, and fertilizer security.”

He further emphasized the importance of ensuring freedom of navigation and keeping shipping lanes open and secure. PM Modi also thanked His Majesty for his continued support for the welfare of the Indian community in Bahrain.

This conversation took place amid ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, which escalated following U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran on February 28. These strikes resulted in the deaths of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and top military officials. In retaliation, Iran targeted U.S. and Israeli bases, regional capitals, and allied forces with drone and missile strikes.

PM Modi and King Hamad had previously spoken on March 2. In recent days, PM Modi has also engaged in discussions with leaders from Malaysia, Oman, France, Kuwait, the UAE, Israel, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar. India remains in continuous contact with regional governments and other key partners regarding the ongoing conflict in Iran and the Gulf region.

On Thursday, PM Modi had a second phone conversation this month with King Abdullah II of Jordan, expressing concern over the deteriorating situation in the Middle East.
