PM Modi Congratulates Suvendu Adhikari on Historic Win in West Bengal

New Delhi, May 9: Suvendu Adhikari has taken the oath as the Chief Minister of West Bengal, marking a significant milestone as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) forms its first government in the state. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan congratulated Adhikari, calling this a historic moment for West Bengal.

Prime Minister Modi expressed his congratulations on the social media platform X, stating, “Congratulations to Suvendu Adhikari on taking the oath as Chief Minister of West Bengal. He has established himself as a leader deeply connected with the people and their aspirations. I wish him all the best for a successful tenure ahead.”

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also took to X to highlight the significance of remembering Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore on the auspicious occasion of ‘Pochishe Boishakh’. He described Tagore as a great symbol of India’s cultural and intellectual heritage.

Pradhan noted that West Bengal stands at a crucial juncture, where its rich cultural legacy meets new democratic aspirations. He emphasized that Bengal has produced many great thinkers, social reformers, writers, artists, and nationalist leaders who have strengthened the foundation of modern India. He referred to the spirit of ‘Sonar Bangla’, stating that this change is not merely political but symbolizes the hopes and aspirations of the people of Bengal for a better future.

The oath-taking ceremony took place in Kolkata on Saturday, where Governor R.N. Ravi administered the oath to Suvendu Adhikari. Alongside him, five other ministers also took their oaths. The atmosphere was filled with enthusiasm among BJP leaders and supporters.

The leaders who took the oath with Adhikari included Dilip Ghosh, Agnimitra Paul, Ashok Kirtania, Khudiram Tudu, and Nishith Pramanik. This historic victory marks the first time a right-wing party has formed a government in the state.

Suvendu Adhikari’s political journey spans over three decades. He began his political career in 1995 as a councilor from the Kanthi municipality. He has served as a councilor three times and was also the chairman of the Kanthi municipality. With over 20 years of legislative experience, he has been a Member of Parliament twice, a legislator three times, and served as the Leader of the Opposition in the assembly for five years.
